Creativity is intelligence having fun.

– Albert Einstein

Creating is a never-ending action that involves multiple aspects, such as thinking, collaborating, communicating, and learning.

A Collaborative Approach Between SLPs and Paraprofessionals on Data Collection

  • The project was formulated based on my experience working as a paraprofessional in a community-based elementary school. Although collaboration has been emphasized, the actual collaborated model is limited. Studies about the transdisciplinary model between professionals in school settings are limited. Driven by the need, I took the initiative to conduct a study about this collaboration method in the classroom. The teamwork demonstrated the benefits paraprofessionals bring into the reinforcement of the desired learned skills. This research poster received the privilege to be presented in ASHA 2019 convention. For details of the presentation, you may download either the poster or the slide presentation. The video presentation is also available.

Food Shopping

  • This communication board is personalized for a male adult with the ability to access locations using his index finger 1" x 1" in size. This manual is to support the client's verbalizations when going out for food shopping. The board was created with Boardmaker software program, printed on a cardstock paper, and laminated for durability and extended utilization. The board is foldable and mounted on a plastic file folder for secure storage and easy care. The board contains approximately 97% words considering that the client's language and literacy skills are within normal limits. Six buttons with symbols are provided for urgent or quick messages.

The board also has a QWERTY keyboard to assimilate the keyboard of the laptop computer. The vocabularies are organized to adapt the S-V-O syntax, from left to right. The organization supports the visual scanning because it conforms with the directional tracking for English reading and writing. This downloadable report provided details and rationales of the layout design.

Speech News

  • At the end of the semester, a progress report was provided to summarize the student's achievements. Additionally, it included resources and tools for carrying over the skills learned. This parent communication delivered the Speech News from the intervention sessions.
