My Bio
“ Knowledge is a treasure that cannot be taken away from its owner.“ This value has been rooted firmly in me by my parents and as one of my cultural pride. I was born and grew up in Indonesia. Studying abroad was my childhood dream, which came true when I came to the United States for my undergraduate study. My journey brought me to the most diverse neighborhood in New York City, Elmhurst. Studying at an American university was a challenge for me as an eighteen-year-old student with limited English communication skills.
Furthermore, I encountered the need for speech therapy during my son's early childhood, which confirmed my motivation to become a speech-language pathology (SLP). Communication is a critical aspect of learning, living, and contributing to society. This belief ignited my motivation to pursue the skills and involve in the education community. As a trilingual speaker, my linguistic knowledge empowers me to build relationships and awareness within a broader range of community leaders.
I also had opportunities to take part in leadership roles. I believe a leader is a proactive individual and an active mentor; being a leader is about one's character and lifestyle. During the last year of my graduate study, I studied a collaboration model between school SLPs and paraprofessionals. To learn more about this research, you are invited to explore it in the "creativity" showcases. I mentored first-year graduate students in the Communication Science Disorders program of Long Island University, Brooklyn. I led short meetings about the courses, expectations, and time management. Additionally, I presented on disorder topics and shared my research findings at a local, state, and national level conventions. I am also committed to opportunities that extend beyond our profession; I facilitated a community success group that strengthen my communication skills through coordinate meetings, mediate discussions, present strategies, and provides counseling.
Being a natural learner has continuously driven me to expand my knowledge, experience, and relationships. With a strong background and diverse skill set, I am confident in the creative ideas and successful solutions that I can contribute.
